Press Release

"Using the post industrial, mid austerity backdrop of North East England as inspiration, Brass Monkey is breaking into the Northern music scene with distinctive vocals and his own brand of bluesy, grunge inspired rock. Breaking his teeth on the open mic circuit before becoming known as a gigging acoustic soloist, he released his first 2 singles "Breadline" and "Nowhere" in 2019. Both tracks seek to vent the pressure cooker of emotions felt by those left behind in modern Britain."

Radio Play

"Breadline" was debuted almost simultaneously by Valley FM (Australia) & Spark Sunderland (UK).

It received its national debut on Union Jack Radio's Underdogs & was added to the "9 at 9" rotation, played up to four times within the hour.

It was then added to the rotation for stations including Fantasy Radio UK, KB Radio Canada, Only Rock Radio & Radio TFSC where, along with "Nowhere," it was included in "Pick of the Week."

It then reached number 1 in the WKW 98.6 AM CRAM Top 40 Chart. "Nowhere" went on to reach number 3 in both the CRAM Top 40 and the KB Radio Canada top 25.

"Breadline" was a commended entry in the UK Songwriting Competition. It was was hailed in NARC Magazine by Steve Spithray as a great "reworking of 60s garage" and likened to both Alabama 3 & Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.

Michael O'Neill, also of NARC, praised Brass Monkey's second single "Nowhere" as "an admirable home-spun slab of blues scuzz." Joe Dert of Verbz Up Magazine claimed it deserved to be on an action movie soundtrack.
